The making of steel alloy components

Industries where a process is mostly automated, have a great demand for metal components. These components are very small, but have complex shapes and high dimensional accuracy. Usually the components are made of steel alloys. A way to make a component of steel alloy is the lost wax method.

 

The lost wax process owes its name to the amount of wax that is used for making ceramic models. Previously, the wax was trashed after the process, but nowadays the majority of the used wax is being recycled after the process.

 

The lost wax process is made up of 4 phases. First, a wax model is made. This determines the form of the final component. Then a ceramic tree is made in the wax model. These ceramic tree is then baked at a temperature of about 1100 Celsius degrees. Step three is the casting process. The steel alloy of choice is melted and poured in the ceramic tree. Once that is done, they are ready to cool down. The last phase is the finishing department. As it says, they finish the component so that it can be yield.
